Volunteering at La Cruz Verde
This involves various daily activities within the centre. Each volunteers skills and talents are adapted to various tasks during their stay. These include maintenance and construction work, cleaning animal cages, feeding the animals and administrative or advertising work.
other INFORMATION
Rurrenabaque offers various trips and tours to Madidi National park, Pilon Lajas Reserve and the Pampas of Yacuma. The Carmen Florida community, who work alongside the centre, offer excursions into the jungle and community land. There are several nice pools in town to hang up and relax in a hammock with a cold beer, just what the volunteers at La Cruz Verde deserve.
what to bring
- Rubber Boots (available in Rurrenabaque)
- Long Sleeved clothing, trousers
- Sun protection (hat, suncream)
- Flashlight
- The use of chemical repellents while working with the animals is forbidden.
ACCOmMODATION
Currently, the centre offers basic accommodation. At present, there is no electricity or phone service. Let us know if you have any dietary requirements in advance as Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are prepared for you.
The new accommodation, offering shared dormitories for volunteers aims to be finished by October 2022. Dormitories are equipped with common beds, mosquito nets and bathrooms with showers. The centre is situated beside the Beni river, offering beautiful views which will make your stay even more special.
We ask for a 9 USD contribution per day per person for food and expenses. Furthermore, we ask for a unique contribution to the community’s health fund (7 USD).
HOW TO REACH US
From La Paz: Take a bus (80Bs) from Villa Fatima. This bus will take approximately 12 hours and you’ll arrive at Rurrenabaque bus terminal. From there, take a taxi to the Rurrenabaque port. Finally, ask one of the boat drivers to be dropped off at La Cruz Verde (10 minute ride), where the centre is located (10Bs).
